Forms of Assisted Reproduction Technology (ART)

AI (artificial insemination) also known as IUI (Intrauterine insemination) - placing sperm inside a woman's uterus to facilitate fertilisation. The goal of IUI is to increase the number of sperm that reach the Fallopian tubes and subsequently increase the chance of fertilisation.

IVF (In Vitro Fertilisation) - Is a method of helping a woman to have a baby in which an egg is removed from one of her ovaries, fertilised outside her body and then place back in her womb.

ICSI (Intra Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection) - A direct injection of a single sperm into an egg obtained from IVF (outside the body fertilisation) The fertilised egg can then be transferred to the woman's uterus.

GIFT (Gamete Intra Fallopian Transfer) - This is similar to IVF, but in this procedure fertilisation happens naturally after a doctor places eggs and sperm directly inside one of the fallopian tubes.

There are so many facets to infertility; the physical aspects being one of them. For so many couples struggling with infertility, the stress and psychological trauma affects them the most. It is always advisable to go for counselling prior to embarking on your fertility journey.

Please remember to keep all your scripts, scans and important information stored as you will need it when transferring from one doctor to another. You can store all your information on the FertilyGo App Once you have downloaded the App, you will be able to share your information with your doctor. Another great advantage of this App is that doctors are able to share files with each other through the App.

We recommend whilst on this journey, you speak to your Fertility Specialist about the importance of pre-implantation genetic testing pre-implantation genetic testing which is the testing of early stage embryo’s (up to 5 days old) for genetic abnormalities. The term ‘pre-implantation’ is used because testing is performed on embryos during the time before the time that they would naturally implant into the uterus (usually after day 6). PGT-A is offered as a compliment to a patients in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) treatment to improve pregnancy success rates and reduce miscarriages. PGT-A testing is testing of early stage embryos for chromosomal abnormalities.
